Privacy notice
Short version: no cookies, no account, no advertising trackers. Your texts and voice recordings stay on your device. We store your e-mail only if you join the early-access list.
Who is responsible
READ FRANCE SAS, 11 rue Rouvet, 75019 Paris, France (SIREN 988 741 773) is the data fiduciary under India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act) and the controller under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR). Contact for any privacy question, request or grievance: octave@vread.fr. The site is run with Octave, an AI agent; a person at READ FRANCE SAS handles rights requests.
1. Your texts and recordings: not collected
- The self-check runs in your browser. What you type is saved only in your browser's local storage, so a draft survives a reload. “Delete text” removes it; clearing your browser data does too.
- Speaking recordings use your browser's microphone (MediaRecorder). The audio stays in the open tab's memory. It is never uploaded. Closing the tab or pressing “Delete recording” removes it. If you press “Save the recording”, the file goes to your own device only.
2. Anonymous audience and behaviour measurement
When you open a page or press certain buttons, your browser sends us: the page path, the name of the action (for example “check_done”), the domain of the site that sent you here, utm campaign tags if the link had them, whether the screen is narrower than 768 pixels, and on the early-access page which test price and currency were shown.
To improve the site we also measure, in aggregate, how pages are used:
- pages viewed, how far down a page you scroll (25, 50, 75 or 100%) and which sections of the page are reached;
- the time before the first click on a main button (in four ranges: under 10 seconds, 10 to 30, 30 to 120, over 2 minutes);
- forms started and submitted and, when a form is left unsent, the name of the last field touched (for example “email”), never what you typed in it;
- which model answers or other expandable items are opened, and the domain of outbound links clicked (for example goethe.de);
- technical errors, as an anonymous fingerprint of the error message; page speed (Core Web Vitals: good, needs improvement or poor) and repeated rapid clicks on the same element (a sign that something does not respond).
We keep only daily totals per page, not individual visits. No cookie, no identifier, no user agent; the requests are sent without credentials, and our script (Google Apps Script) does not receive your IP address, so none is kept. No personal data is collected, there is no tracking across other sites, and nothing is shared or sold: these numbers are used only for DeutschDrill's own statistics, to improve the site. Search-engine crawlers and automated browsers, recognised inside your browser without their signature being sent, are counted separately or not at all, and a page your browser preloads is counted only if you open it.
A/B tests. Some visitors see a different version of a headline, a button or a price; today the early-access page tests two monthly prices (₹499 and ₹799). The version shown to you is kept in your browser's session storage for this tab only, and deleted when you close the tab (a test can also be chosen by date, with nothing stored). It is never linked to you. The early-access list is free; if a paid option opens, the price charged will always be the one displayed to you at that time.
Opting out: if your browser sends “Do Not Track” or “Global Privacy Control”, nothing at all is sent (you still see a version of any test).
Because these counts cannot identify you, we consider them not personal data under the DPDP Act or the GDPR. In France, where READ FRANCE SAS is based, this kind of strictly aggregated, first-party audience measurement without cross-site tracking, without combination with other data and without transfer falls within the exemption of article 82 of the French Data Protection Act (CNIL guidelines and recommendation of 17 September 2020 on cookies and other trackers), so no consent banner is needed. We describe it here so you can judge for yourself.
3. The early-access list
- What: your e-mail, the options you ticked (offer, plan, level, exam, exam month), the test price and currency shown, the campaign tag of your visit and the date.
- Why: to e-mail you once when the paid options open, and to count how many people want them at which price.
- Legal basis: your consent (DPDP Act section 6; GDPR article 6(1)(a)). You can withdraw it at any time by e-mail; withdrawing is as easy as giving it.
- Where: in a Google Sheet operated by READ FRANCE SAS. Google acts as our processor and may store data outside India and the EU; transfers to the US rely on Google's standard contractual clauses and the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.
- How long: until the opening e-mail is sent and at most 12 months from your sign-up, then deleted. Earlier if you ask.
- Not done: no sale, no sharing with institutes or agents, no marketing beyond the one opening e-mail, no automated decisions about you.
- Age: the list is for people aged 18 or over, as the DPDP Act requires verifiable parental consent for children's data.
4. Hosting
The pages are hosted on GitHub Pages (GitHub, Inc.). Like any web host, GitHub may process technical data such as IP addresses for security, under the GitHub General Privacy Statement. We do not receive those logs.
5. Your rights
Under the DPDP Act you can ask for a summary of your data and how it is processed, for correction, completion or erasure, and you can nominate someone to exercise your rights. Under the GDPR you also have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection. Write to octave@vread.fr; we answer within 30 days. If you are not satisfied you can complain to the Data Protection Board of India or, in the EU, to the French authority CNIL or your local authority.
