You disagree with a CPAM (health insurance) decision
In short
The CPAM can refuse a reimbursement, coverage or sick-pay, or ask you to repay money. The decision must say how to challenge it. The route depends on the type of decision.
Deadlines to check
- Administrative decision (rights, reimbursements, money claimed…): write to the amicable appeals board (CRA) within 2 months, by ordinary letter. No answer within 2 months means it is rejected.
- Medical decision (opinion of the medical adviser): write to the medical amicable appeals board (CMRA) within 2 months, by registered letter. No answer within 4 months means it is rejected.
- Next step: the social division of the judicial court (pôle social du tribunal judiciaire) within 2 months; a €50 contribution may be required unless you get legal aid.
What to do
- Identify the type of decision and the appeal route written on the letter.
- Write to the board before the deadline, with the decision and your supporting documents (and, for a medical decision, the relevant medical documents).
- After an unsuccessful complaint, you can contact the health insurance mediator: doing so suspends the appeal deadline.
- Keep copies of everything and proof of sending.
Watch out: Never post medical documents on a forum or unofficial website. Send them only to the board or the medical service.
