You received a property tax notice (taxe foncière)
In short
Property tax (taxe foncière) is paid by people who own a property on 1 January of the year. The notice shows the amount and the payment deadline.
Deadlines to check
- 2026 property tax: pay by 15 October 2026, or by 20 October 2026 at midnight if you pay online.
- If you pay monthly by direct debit, nothing to do: debits continue.
- You can file a claim until 31 December 2027 for the 2026 tax.
What to do
- Check the property and that you owned it on 1 January.
- Pay online on impots.gouv.fr or with the app; cash or cheque is only possible if the tax is €300 or less.
- If there is a mistake (property sold, wrong surface…), file a claim: secure messaging > « Réclamation sur la taxe foncière ».
Watch out: A claim does not automatically stop the payment: pay on time to avoid a surcharge, unless a payment deferral is granted.
