Residence permits (ANEF, prefecture)
Your residence permit is ready: collection and tax stamp
In short
When your residence card has been made, the prefecture invites you to collect it. You must pay a fee, as a tax stamp (timbre fiscal), when you collect it.
Deadlines to check
- Since 1 May 2026, the fee is €350 for a first card (standard rate) or €150 (reduced rate), and €250 for a renewal (standard rate) or €100 (reduced rate). A duplicate costs €350 (€150 reduced).
- Go on the date or within the period given in the invitation; if you cannot, contact the prefecture beforehand.
What to do
- Buy the electronic tax stamp on the official website timbres.impots.gouv.fr (or at an approved tobacconist).
- Check which rate applies to your permit (shown on the invitation or on Service-Public).
- Bring the invitation, your passport, your old permit or certificate, and proof that you bought the stamp.
Watch out: Only buy tax stamps on the official site timbres.impots.gouv.fr: private websites resell them at a higher price.
