The CAF asks you for supporting documents
In short
The CAF (family benefits office) is checking that your file matches your real situation (income, housing, family). It asks for documents such as your tax notice, payslips, lease or certificates. This is routine and does not mean you made a mistake.
Deadlines to check
- The deadline is written in the letter: there is no single standard deadline. Note it as soon as you receive the letter.
- If you do not reply in time, the CAF can suspend your benefit payments.
What to do
- Read the exact list of documents requested.
- Send them from your online account: Mon Compte > Mes démarches > tab « À transmettre ». It is the fastest way and keeps a record.
- If a document is missing, send what you have before the deadline and explain why the rest is missing.
- Keep a copy of everything you send.
Watch out: A false statement can lead to penalties. If you are unsure what to declare, ask the CAF or a France services centre.
