The CAF announces a check of your situation
In short
The CAF regularly checks files. Checks can be automatic (data compared with other administrations such as the tax office or France Travail), a request for documents, or an on-site visit by a sworn inspector. A check does not mean you are suspected of fraud.
Deadlines to check
- For a document request: respect the deadline written in the letter.
- For an appointment or visit: if the date does not suit you, tell the CAF quickly using the contact details in the letter.
- If the check leads to an overpayment, you will receive a separate notice with its own appeal deadlines.
What to do
- Read the CAF control charter: it describes your rights and the inspector's obligations (link below).
- Prepare recent documents: income, lease or rent receipts, household members.
- Answer honestly; mention any change in your situation you may have forgotten to report.
- After the check, read the decision you receive. If you disagree, follow the appeal route written on it.
Watch out: Refusing a check or not replying can lead to your benefits being suspended.
