You received a traffic offence notice (avis de contravention)
In short
The notice tells you about a traffic offence (speeding, red light, parking…), often recorded by a camera. It shows the amount depending on when you pay.
Deadlines to check
- Reduced fine (minorée): paid within 15 days, or 30 days if the notice was posted to you and you pay online or by card. No reduction for parking.
- Standard fine (forfaitaire): paid within 45 days (60 days online or by card).
- Challenge it (requête en exonération): within 45 days, online on the ANTAI website or by registered letter. A deposit of the amount is required if you dispute the offence.
- Company vehicle: the company's representative must name the driver within 45 days; otherwise a fine for not naming the driver (up to €675) may be due.
What to do
- Check the number plate, place, date and photo if available.
- To pay: only on amendes.gouv.fr or with the methods shown on the notice.
- If you were not the driver, or the vehicle was stolen or sold: use the ANTAI website with the notice number.
- Paying the fine means you accept the offence (and lose points where applicable).
Watch out: Fraudulent text messages and emails imitate ANTAI. Never use a link received by SMS: type amendes.gouv.fr yourself.
