You received an increased fixed fine (amende forfaitaire majorée)
In short
A fine is « majorée » (increased) when the original fine was neither paid nor challenged in time. The amount is higher, and the public treasury can then use enforced collection.
Deadlines to check
- Claim (réclamation): within 30 days of the notice being sent (3 months if it was sent by registered letter). You can no longer file a claim once you have started paying.
- Quick payment: paying within 30 days (45 days online) gives a 20% reduction.
What to do
- Ask yourself why you did not receive the original notice (address change not updated on your vehicle registration?).
- If you dispute it, file the claim within the deadline, following the instructions on the notice (online on the ANTAI website or by post).
- If you pay, use only the methods on the notice or amendes.gouv.fr.
Watch out: Update the address on your vehicle registration certificate: that is where notices are sent.
